Everything starts when Thomas wakes up with amnesia, remembering only his name, he has been put with some other boys, who also does not remember stuff, in a maze that has no way out (according to some). After he arrives to the maze things start happening, new stuff they have not seen before (in the maze of course)… so they need to figure it out, like what is happening and maybe find a way out from the maze, if.. there is one.
Before the movie came out, or before it was announced, I’ve never heard from the series, usually I do not watch the movie before reading the book, but definitely the movie got me into reading the books. The hype was like hell, everyone was talking about it… but, not everyone was happy. Let me be clear first. I really liked the book, I actually belive that characters were pretty likeable. Memory loss is something I do not like to read, cuz I hate like being anxious about everyone knowing everything except like the character who has amnesia. but Thomas was not like that, a lot. I mean everyone in the maze did not remember shit, so they kinda were cool about it, or at least they were relatable with the subjetc.
Have you ever read The Lord of the Flies? Somehow all the like plot regarding the boys being by themselves, with no adults to supervise, no rules, no society system reminds me a little bit of the MR. Perhaps it was one the things that make the book a lil bit slow at the beginning, I mean trying to explain how they survived and how they are managing basically everything being kids. It was somehow tedious but not less important, I think it’s pretty cool how they manage everything. Of course there were somethings left off the topic, like adolescence and puberty LOL.
Later in the book and this is not a SPOILER, a female arrives to the maze, Teresa. She of course changes everything, not for good. And I think that is what made me not liking her, at all. Thankfully, there was Minho and Newt, even Chuck. They made everything better, ajajaja, not until it is revealed the reason why they are in the maze and by whom.
But yeah, that’s mainly the plot. And the end…. Oh dear Lord, I cannot wait til the next book.
On a different matter, one of the thinghs I hate about Good Reads a lot, is when you definitely love a book and then you start like reading the reviews and ppl start like questioning things you did not think the first time, and then you end up over analyzing if you actually liked the book or not, so no, no, no, no.
I’m no writting expert, so I do not have the slightest idea if it is well written or not, I mean it was definitely a best seller, with a movie contract… so I think it did pretty good. So why to bother looking for every flaw possible.
I wish I could throw every one who complains into the maze to see if they are smart enough to act any different from the Glade guys.
5/5
